FAQ’s
What is my timber worth?
The value of timber depends on several factors. Size, quality, volume, and type are just a few of these factors. In order for us to give you an estimate of value, we would need to inspect your timber to determine the factors. Other factors that determine value are type of harvesting operation, ground operability, and distance from the mill.
If you would like an estimate of your timber value, please feel free to give us a call and set up a time for one of our foresters to inspect your property. When setting an appointment with us, it is helpful to have a legal description or parcel ID number. Both of these can be obtained by calling the assessor’s office in the county your timberland is located in.
How small of a tract will you harvest?
Generally speaking, our crews don’t like to move for tracts smaller than 20 acres. However, if you have a smaller tract and it is near a larger tract that we are scheduled to harvest, we may be able to work with our contractors and have them harvest your timber, while we are there.
How much does it cost to replant my timberland?
The cost of reforestation can depend on several factors. The amount of site preparation, the type of trees that are planted, and the number of trees per acre that are planted. We would need to inspect the site, first, and coordinate with our reforestation contractors to get an accurate estimate of costs. If you would like to get an estimate of reforestation costs, please feel free to give us a call and speak with Sam Denison. Having a legal description or parcel ID number from the assessor’s office is helpful.
When should I thin my pine plantation?
Pine plantations need 2-3 thinnings to allow the trees to reach sawtimber size. The timing of these thinnings vary greatly and depend on the age of the stand, merchantability of the stems, and crown closure to name a few. The rule of thumb is to complete a “1st thin” at age 15 then 1 to 2 more thins at 5 – 10 year intervals, before a final harvest.
The timing of these subsequent thinnings will depend on weather, response of the timber to the previous thinnings, and market conditions.
I have some trees in my yard. Will you come cut them?
Our crews are not insured to remove trees from yards, near homes, or trees that are deemed too dangerous by the owner of the crew.
